Default The Check Raise

When do you check raise in a texas holdem tournament? This type of poker strategy should be used sparingly. Most professional poker players use this as a bluffing strategy or a defending strategy for a really good hand. When utilizing the check raise in a bluffing position this is typically the call used pre-flop, flop, turn and at the river or any combination of these. A player with a weak set of pocket cards typically won’t limp into the game unless they are in the late position. This would be the time to use a check raise as a bluff. This will force the players into the hand or to fold unless they are also bluffing which is possible!
If a check raise is called or re-raised at the flop then you may want to come in strong and make a check raise bet instead of folding. If your opponents are still in the game you may want to decide whether you have the stack size to see this through. Do you see a weakness in your opponent?
If you decide to see this through then you will have to maintain the aggression to the end. This strategy could cost you a pretty penny!

The check raise can also be used to defend a powerhouse hand. This strategy is a very strong and aggressive bet that should be used only when you believe you have your opponents beat. If you are holding a hand you believe is worth defending the check raise will intimidate the weaker players at the tables and will also throw out a bone to the more aggressive players to help maximize your win.
Remember the check raise is a strong poker strategy but is to be used sparingly. Understanding when to use the check raise will improve your over all poker skill. This type of poker bet is better used at the sit & go tournament tables.

The above post is very informative. I tend to use the check-raise too much personally. I often like to use it as a bluffing strategy. It can be very effective.

I actually tend to underutilize this often useful method. I am too direct sometimes, and I can be rather easy to read.

I also overuse it and I must reduce my usage as my opponent usually knows my next move.
